gravatar’s system only allow use [a-z][A-Z][0-9] but “_”
It doesn’t matter in fact.
Because all what will turn out to take effect is not your username, but your email address, which is identified globally and uniquely and without the restriction you mentioned.
It won’t bother you even if you forget your username in gravatar.com, as you can just use the email address to log in and manage your gravatars.
So let it be.
